  1. DESCRIPTION

  4. “Chicago Nice” is an INIT which lets you replace the usual Chicago system font used in windows and menus, etc., with a new, pretty version.
  5.  
  6. “Chicago Nice” was tested by many people with a lot of programs for 3 months before shipping, and no anomalies were found during the testing time -- in other words, it's reliable!
  7.  
  8. We have found cosmetic anomalies with programs like Microsoft Word 4.0, and in general with programs that have their own system fonts. In those cases you still see the standard Chicago font in menus and in some dialogs, but they are just cosmetic anomalies and don't generate crashes or other disastrous phenomena.

(Editor's note: you can remove the "Chicago" font in Microsoft Word by holding down the Option key when clicking the Open button in Font/DA Mover. This has the effect of ruining the option key symbol in Word's menus, and it has not been fully tested; perhaps a version of “Chicago Nice” will address this problem in the future.)

  12. INSTALLATION

  15. Simply drag the “Chicago Nice” icon into your System Folder.
  16.  
  17. It is immediately visible in the Control Panel so you can change settings right away if you like. The nice font will be installed after the next restart.

  19. Note that the first time you restart, “Chicago Nice” takes time during boot time (when icons are appearing) because it installs the new font into the System file. After that, boots will be very quick because then the “Chicago Nice” just checks if the new font has been installed.

  21. If you hold the mouse button down during startup, the test/install phase of “Chicago Nice” will be skipped.

  23. If you hold the command key down during startup, the installation of “Chicago Nice” (if active) will be forced, even if it's already installed.

  25. If you hold the option key down during startup, “Chicago Nice” will temporarily reverse the setting of  the "Active" checkbox in the Control Panel.

  27. REMOVING IT

  30. I hope you like “Chicago Nice” and never remove it, but if you wish to do so, remember to make it INACTIVE with the Control Panel and then restart so it can remove the nice font from your System file and restore the original font (Chicago). Then you are ready to throw the icon in the trash.
